Primarily a research facility, the Hawaiian Historical Society houses over 15,000 volumes of historical documents on Hawai‘i and the Pacific—an extensive collection of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century materials, including narratives of early voyages and travels, newspapers, photographs and manuscripts. The Society publishes limited editions books, The Hawaiian Journal of History, the newsletter Na Mea Kahiko, an Annual Report, a Guide to the Library Collections, and a Catalog of Publications.
